What is my favorite movie? What is my favorite book? What is my favorite anything?
Generally, I sidestep these questions. My favorite "whatever" usually depends upon my mood du jour.
Even so, I do have a default movie/book that I love beyond measure:
Tiny Perfect Things
(Movie on Amazon Prime)
Screenplay written by:
Lev Grossman
and
The Map of
Tiny Perfect Things
Short Story written by:
Lev Grossman
A friend recommended this movie to me. I watched the movie. Then, I watched it again.
Now, I watch it every time I need to feel hopeful about life, the universe, and everything.
My love for the movie led to my search for the short story. This, too, holds a place in my heart.
I won't give away much about The Map of Tiny Perfect Things, other than to share a quote or two:
single moment of beauty,
every tiny perfect thing. . .
moments when,
for just a few seconds,
the dull coal of reality
was compressed by
random chance into
a glittering diamond
of awesomeness."
~ Lev Grossman
waiting and watching
for perfect moments,
but sometimes you have
to make one happen."
~ Lev Grossman
I want this. I want to pay attention to the moments in life that take my breath away. I want to focus on what I love.
I want to fill my life with joy, surprise, and wonder.
I want to laugh. I want to share that laughter and the breathless astonishment of living in a vast universe.
Life is (paradoxically) often about being happy and sad at the same time.
Perhaps the trick is to pay special attention to the good stuff when it happens.
Then, we can use those bright spots - those tiny perfect things - as our own personal constellations, guiding us along our way.
with tiny perfect things.🌺
